Supernus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has a broad portfolio of proven and patented drug delivery platforms that it uses for the development of products in its own pipeline and in partnership with other companies. Among its key technologies are ProScreen®, ProPhile® and OptiScreen® for lead selection and formulation optimization, Microtrol®, Solutrol® and EnSoTrol®, for oral controlled release, and Avert®, for reduced abuse potential.

ProScreen®, ProPhile®, and OptiScreen® techmologies are comprised of proprietary techniques for identifying lead molecules and optimizing their oral delivery. This enables development of promising new chemical entities that may otherwise be abandoned or the optimization of delivery for existing chemical entities and marketed products. ProScreen® is a predictive screen for lead candidates that warrant oral delivery; ProPhile® is a suite of in silico modeling tools that enables multivariate analysis and PK prediction; and OptiScreen® is a technology for formulation optimization including solubility or permeability enhancement leading to oral bioavailability improvement.

Many drug candidates also require customized release profiles in order to more effectively treat the therapeutic indication of interest or minimize unwanted side effects that may be related to Cmax or patient- to-patient variability. Supernus possesses an array of proven and patented controlled release technology platforms to address the specific needs of a wide range of molecules. More specifically, Microtrol®, Solutrol®, and EnSoTrol® provide Supernus and its partners access to all three technical approaches for oral controlled release (multi-particulate, matrix and osmotic).

Supernus created Avert® as a platform to reduce abuse potential of formulations designed to deliver scheduled substances. In a mini-tablet or multi-particulate construct, Avert® can be used as an add-on to existing formulations of current products or can be designed into a new formulation. Avert® uses a combination of malodorous agents, coloring agents, and precipitants.
